The End of Software
This article is in two parts. The first is speculative, and considers whether software development is evolving from generic to bespoke. By this is meant a leap from software designed and developed by organizations, and targeted to the broadest base of users, to software designed and developed by individuals for their specific and evolving needs. The second section steps through a case study of a personal CRM system developed by the author using Claude Code. This section reviews successes and failures, and gives a realistic perspective on how close we are to the hypothesized goal of personal software.
